I go portaging in Algonquin Park for a week at a time. I currently have a Katadyn Scout, water quality is great, filter life is tremendous 50000 liters) but the flow rate is a little slow (about 500 ml/per minute). I purchased it used from ebay for 120 US (280 US brand new). I am currently reviewing some of the gravity fed systems beacuse I hate pumping. It's a toss up between the Doulton GSS-Mini and the MSR Autoflow system. The Doulton GSS mini has higher filtration quality and a much longer filter life but it only produces about 700ml/hour. The MSR autoflow has a much higher flow rate (1.75 Liters/min). Both filters have a 0.2 micron filter but the doulton filter is silver impregnated ceramic with activated carbon for chlorine and chemicals, whereas the MSR filter is a hollow fiber based filter, which is not effective against pollutants and chemicals and chlorine. I am probably going to buy the MSR autoflow because the flow rate of the Doulton model is limiting for groups larger than two.
